pickspaddocks blog April 27th

Hi all I made the error of leaving a few alone yesterday due to not having ran for over 100+ days missing out on three very nice winners due to that! one of which was 33/1 therefore today if I like them I will give them a mention no matter how long it is since they have had a run, we head to Sandown for the 14:05 for our first race to solve 19f class 2 competitive race to say the least! Minella Fortfitness is the current market fav with a decent hatrick of wins behind him I think I've found a few to take him on with considering last time he won his weight was 10.3 and today carries 11.11 placed previously carrying 11.8 over 16f, to carry that weight over the extra distance is a big ask to say the least either he will zoom home anyway and prove me very wrong or will weaken under pressure during the last 2 furlongs as I suspect he will, one that interests me is Black Thunder this horse was travelling really well when unfortunately falling at Cheltenham back in March, the Nicholls runner has placed here previously the distance will be no issue and the going ideal being 2nd in a class 2 over 21f carring 11.11 harrys 5lb claim most definitely brings him into play. Berbatos will appreciate the drop in trip from LTO grandads horse will have needed the last run but seems to want good to firm ground, I love Vendor and the king / hutch combo but feel this is a prep race for a later entry, stopped out did well to finish 5th on unsuitable ground LTO the going will be more suited here not experienced at the course however the track should suit and and seems an e/w opportunity, quaddick lake is worthy of a mention running well when not getting a clear run ending up trapped between runners and put off from going into top gear 10 days ago this may be a race a little too soon, Garynella is also worth watching.

So now we head to Ripon for a stiff 1 mile class 3 contest on good ground, Dubai Dynamo is in fantastic form being a CD horse has to be a player although high in the weights more of an E/W then a winner, xilerator has never won over a mile he's a 7f runner so one to discount, Fahey's yard is in decent form and his runner Lord Aeryn has conditions to suit who runs well fresh certainly should be up in front, looking at the rest of the field theres a few that raise the eyebrow with a "possibility" and more that you think erm no, Jo'Burg is one of those who have not had a recent run but still seems way overpriced David's yard is coming into form and with conditions that suit and a decent jockey onboard has made it to my shortlist.

Now heading back to Sandown for a clash of class we have Sanctuaire hoping to reclaim the crown he did here last yr yayyyyyyyyy you all say, WAIT I say Sanctuaire wants soft ground rain is forecast so if it does goes soft then go ahead and back him by all means, but if the ground stays good then leave alone, wishful thinking's price is way to short at the minute with some classier sorts in here and has certainly never ran well at the course, two catch my eye and they are two veterans both being aged 10, Finnians rainbow has raced alongside frankel and will appreciate the drop in trip to last time, Tanks for that the other Henderson runner is the other who catches my eye, ticking a lot of boxes runs off a decent mark & weight, being honest this is a really competitive clash and half the field could win it, on the day it will be down to the jockey how the horse is ridden and if they can get a clear run also take into account whether or not it rains or not.

Back to Ripon we go for the 2.55 mashaari wants soft so one to watch if the going happens to change, based on good going those who have had a recent run Lexington bay is the one with the best form and class, lady kashan has to be proven over this distance at 4/1 is way to short for me to take a chance on, Dazinski is a CD runner but one who generally needs a few runs under his belt before coming in at a nice price, montaff another CD runner can run well fresh given the right conditions.

Back to Sandown now for a 1m 2f class 1 with the one to be on (assuming he's fit) Al Kazeem is class and will win on any going when fully fit, cecil and queally are deadly and Sir Henry knows what he's doing he would not run a horse if it was not fit enough but at such a short price one i'm happy to take on so long as all 8 run! Burano is classy and even though only running 9 days ago can go close again here under the skills of Mr Fortune.

And to the last of the 6 races today we stay at Sandown for the class 1 - 3m 5f long haul stamina testing contest with no fewer than 20 runners (as it stands now) who will stay ? Michel Le Bon has raced once over this distance PU over hvy unsuitable ground he has the class and stamina to stay, Balthazar King will definitely stay but has he recovered from the national yet has the break from that race to now given him long enough to regain that stamina that is a question which will be answered today and a price that is too big to ignore in my book, well refreshed is one to back if it rains, I love Galaxy Rock but he's never yet proven he is a stayer so one to dismiss, saint are is a decent horse proven to stay when finishing 9th in the national and again will the 3 week break be enough? Dovers Hill is a decent sort finishing 6th here last yr behind Tidal Bay when the ground went against having not ran since the break could be a concern, Quentin Collenges is ticking a lot of boxes amongst many of the others who time and time again have failed to prove they will stay,
